Paster Lannwit brings services to next level |16 April 2016
Paster Lannwit, through the Anglican Church of Seychelles, is putting in place new projects to help those affected by social ills and prevent those not yet there from being victims, especially the youths.
On a prevention level, Paster Lannwit will soon start a project to provide shoes for all school children in Seychelles to enable them to take part in sports activities. This is a prevention programme to steer them away from alcohol and drug use and other ills of society.
Around 8,000 pairs of shoes will soon be received and distributed to them. Balls will also be given to be used in football games.
“This is going to be on a prevention level so as to enable them to do sports instead of doing drugs or alcohol,” says Anglican Bishop James Wong.
He also announced that Paster Lannwit is actually in discussion with partners both locally and overseas to organise a home, a shelter for sex workers and those addicted to drugs. This shelter, says the bishop, will allow the affected youths to go back to an active live.
“It is the work and ministry of the church to work alongside those who are affected by the ills of society. And this is why we have projects of Paster Lannwit where we help people walking the streets of Victoria at night and those in substance abuse.
“We also try to empower those in such situations to get out and give them a better way to live so as to become active citizens and regain their dignity as a normal person,” says the bishop.
The bishop made these remarks during the first ever meeting of the Anglican Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean Bishops Accompaniment and Provincial Chancellors held recently in Seychelles.
The bishop was announcing new measures being taken by the Paster Lannwit social and spiritual group set up by his church to increase its assistance to youths in such situations.
