Franco Esposito passes away |06 July 2016

Franco Esposito, the former honorary consul of Italy for Seychelles, has passed away.

He died early Sunday morning at the age of 72.

A long-time resident of Seychelles, Mr Esposito was a naturalised Seychellois and friends have described him as “a true Seychellois at heart”.

According to Louisianne Jacques, who has worked with Mr Esposito for 21 years, the Italian first came to Seychelles in 1978 and was the honorary consul of Italy for Seychelles for a period of 15 years until late 2004 when he was succeeded by Claudio Izzi who remains in the post.

Mr Esposito is survived by wife Maria Theresa Di Gennaro, better known as Lilly.

A businessman, Mr Esposito set up the Seyplant company based at the New Port and which was at first involved in the renting of video recorders and televisions. The 30-year-old company now deals in importation, wholesale and retail of Italian products.

Mr Esposito’s body will be cremated this afternoon, at 2pm precisely, at the Padayachy Funeral Parlour at Mont Fleuri.
