Seychelles’ beauty queen all set and ready for Miss World pageant |18 November 2016
‘It’s my lucky year!’
“I am excited, looking forward for the competition and proud to be part of it.”
This was how Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 Christine Barbier described her feelings as she gears up for the Miss World pageant to be held on December 18 in Washington DC, USA.
As she prepares to leave Seychelles on November 25, Miss Barbier met up with Seychelles NATION earlier this week to share her feelings and talk about her impending life changing adventure.
“I am looking forward to meeting the contestants, to discover Washington and the White House. It will be my first time in the USA. I am counting the days down!” Miss Barbier said in reply to our question about her feelings.
Contestants from some 100 countries and autonomous territories will compete for the title in five challenge events like, Beauty with a purpose, Multimedia, Sports and Fitness, Talent, Top Model and a new challenge called Resort Wear. Miss Seychelles … Another World 2016 told us that she works hard at everything she does.
For the past three months, Miss Barbier has made every effort to keep to her tight timetable. She has been trained by dance instructor Denis Rose for talent dance in moutya and salsa at the School of Dance. She has learned how to walk like a catwalk model from Terry Carola of Telly’s Agency. The Savoy Resort & Spa has given her good treatment and massages while a hairdresser took care of her hair. She has also benefited from the help of youth advocate Angelique Pouponneau to prepare speeches and interviews. A great team around her have given her various tips. Last but not least, her sponsor Xtrim fitness gym centre has developed a strong sports programme.
The crucial part of the competition is about her project called ‘Children’s Home – Comfort, Care, Continuity’. It entails building a halfway home for young people who have to leave the children’s homes when they reach the age of 18 and find their own way in life.
“At this time, we have a piece of land and all the support of private sponsors. The next step is the business plan and the government’s approval. So, we are working on the project. It’s really important that this dream comes true. Those young people need attention and a place to live regardless of their problems. We will support and follow them through their adulthood,” she said.
Miss Barbier must complete a video this week about her ‘beauty with a purpose’ project.
Discussing her strategy for this competition, she gave us a few details about her main advantages. “My strong points are modelling and photo shooting. I know how to walk, the posture and the technique. We have made photo shoots at bazars, Four Seasons and Paris. I am confident,” Miss Barbier said before asking for Seychelles’ support.
“I hope I will have the support of all Seychellois for voting, like the pictures and comments on the different websites. I will do everything to make Seychelles proud. It’s my lucky year, then so be it,” she added.
