Football - Marie named footballer of the year, Moustache top female player |11 January 2017

In what was a great season for Praslin-based side Côte d’Or who lifted their second league title, things got even better as one of their own, defender Benoit Marie, has been named Seychelles’ footballer of the season.

A pillar of strength in the Praslin-based as well as Seychelles teams’ defence, Marie was central to Côte d’Or’s excellent form in the second half of the season which saw them slowly move up the table to finally seal the title with a game to spare.

Aside from lifting the league title with Côte d’Or, Marie was also present at the heart of Seychelles’ defence during the Cosafa Cup tournament and the Afcon 2017 qualifying matches, where despite the overall disappointment of the team’s performances, Marie remained consistent in his performances.

On the women’s side of things, it is the young Kelfa Moustache who has claimed the player of the year title.

Moustache was Seychelles team’s only scorer at the CJSOI Games held in Madagascar and is part of the Rovers side who are in Madagascar on a friendly visit.

As for the best young player, the award has gone to Churchill Rose who was part of the Seychelles under-20 side at the recent Cosafa Cup tournament.
