The Seychelles Club

This was the Seychelles Club. It was located on the actual site of the Capital City Building. It was a members club. It opened in 1893 to provide a social club for the colony of Seychelles. The president of the club was the Administrator, Thomas Riseley Griffith and the Chairman was Elysée Savy, the Attorney-at-Law. The monthly subscription was R4. The Seychelles Club closed in 1977.
Seychelles Breweries

It was on November 25, 1972 that Seychelles Breweries launched its line of soft drinks called Seypearl – Cola, Bitter Lemon, Tonic, Sport and Ginger Ale came in 300mm bottles. A carton of 24 bottles cost R23. The Seychelles Breweries was officially opened on January 13, 1973 by Governor Sir Bruce Greatbach, in the presence of the Chief Minister James Mancham, other ministers and the brewery representatives from abroad. In 1976, Seychelles Breweries produced 3.3 million litres of beer and stout. This year, for the month of June when we celebrated the 40th anniversary of our Independence, Seychelles Breweries produced 567,064 litres of beer!
