The visit took in the Regional Home for the Elderly, the Home for Mental patients, the Rehabilitation ward and the hospice within the North East Point complex.
The aim of the visit was to ensure better understanding of the way in which the hospital works, the constraints faced as well as future development to ensure a better experience for patients and staff.
The visit kicked off at North East Point Hospital at 5.30pm where Minister Adam and Hon. Esparon visited all wards and talked to patients while being briefed on issues and constraints faced in the area.
During this visit both parties talked about the good practices in the hospital as well as ways to improve the work experience.
The visit was also an opportunity for residents to meet the minister and Hon. Esparon personally and raise their concerns.
“I appreciate Hon. Esparon’s effort to engage with the work of the ministry and the Health Care Agency. In particular through this visit I would like to underline that while things are not perfect, we are offering a service to elderly and vulnerable members of our society that is a reference for small island countries. We are committed to improving further through more investment in our facilities and a strong commitment to patient care. In particular this visit has shown how devoted and hard working our health staff are. And this visit has further illustrated how we have to work with the community, families and schools to further develop preventative health practices that will enhance our health outcomes in line with the priorities that President Faure emphasised in his State-of-the-nation address,” Minister Adam remarked after the visit.
On her part, Hon. Esparon expressed her appreciation to the minister for having organised the visit, which presents a chance to better understand developments at the North East Point Hospital in all its dimensions.
She also remarked that the presence of other government officials in the delegation displays the level of commitment from all parties to join forces and find solutions together for the issues raised.
Other members of the delegation at the visit included deputy chief executive of the Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Lounage; principal policy analyst, Bella Henderson; senior principal nursing officer, Dolorese Pool; principal nursing officer for community, Marie Antoinette Hoareau; principal nursing officer for specialist and hospital, Gylian Mein.
