RCSS gears up for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day |05 May 2017
The Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) is organising a host of activities to mark this year’s World Red Cross & Red Crescent Day which falls on May 8.
The activities comprise a youth road show which will take place tomorrow, Saturday May 6 at the Independence House building in Victoria from 10am until 1pm followed by another one in the afternoon at the STC hypermarket premises Bois de Rose, Avenue from 12 noon to 3pm. Both shows will be portraying the theme set by the international movement ‘everywhere for everyone’ as well as the theme chosen by the youth for the day, ‘Red Cross Youth in action; promoting peace, humanity and voluntarism’.
Performances such as poems, songs and testimonies will be the highlight of the events as well as live band entertainment accompanied by local artists such as Joseph Sinon.
At the same time, a charity sale will be taking place at the Camion Hall for fundraising purposes.
For the main commemoration day, May 8, the highlight will be the presentation of the RCSS Strategic plan 2017 – 2021 merged with the launch of its new website.
The event, at which the RCSS’ new patron will also be presented, will start at 2pm at the STC conference room.
On the inner islands, the RCSS Praslin Branch will be organising a seedling activity involving volunteers in collaboration with TRASS members, starting at 8.30 am, at the TRASS nursery, Baie Ste Anne Praslin.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, 8 May, is an opportunity to recognise the contribution and achievements of the millions of volunteers and staff members around the world who are keeping the movement’s commitment to humanity every day - by making the last mile effort to ensure that no one is left behind.
RCSS wishes to convey its gratitude to everyone who up to now has lent a helping hand to promote the movement’s principles and values; alleviate human suffering in any way possible not only on a national level but worldwide to all communities. A single gesture can help someone in need be it in monetary form, support or physical aid.
The work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – comprising the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies ̶ draws on more than 150 years of humanitarian action.
