Revolutionary anti-termite barrier arrives in Seychelles |18 May 2017
A new anti-termite barrier applied to the foundations of buildings in the initial stages of construction is now available in Seychelles.
Kordon, as the barrier is called, was introduced to stakeholders by PESTEA, one of the leading pest control solutions providers in Seychelles, in association with Koatchimie France, the sole distributor of Kordon and Hardy Henri services, leader of pest control Indian Ocean from Mauritius.
As more and more cases of termites attacking buildings are recorded in Seychelles a long-term solution was urgently needed. It also comes at a critical time when Seychelles will be forced to address new solutions as the common pesticides that are used for chemical treatment is now banned worldwide thus no longer manufactured so will soon not be available.
Seychelles as it is known puts strong emphasis on environmental aspects and we are well known for our many endangered species of fauna and flora and endemic animals, hence the need to encourage new methods of pest control.
Pestea is to be commended to finding solutions against termites and at the same time identifying the needs of protecting our islands in a more sustainable manner.
The presentation was held on Monday afternoon in the conference room at Eden Bleu hotel and was attended by representatives from construction companies, architects, consultants, engineers and government bodies and agencies.
A four-member panel consisting of Sebastien Hardy, owner and director of Hardy Henri Services Mauritius, Jacques Ray, Kordon Indian Ocean expert and from Hardy Henri Mauritius, Philipe Le Merlus, owner and director general of Koat Chimie France, the sole certified distributor of Kordon and Lynn Gower, sales marketing manager of Pestea.
In his introductory remark, Sebastien Hardy explained that Kordon is a multi-layer comprising polyester webbing which contains deltamethrin that is trapped between two UV-stable polyethylene sheets. It comes in rolls of different sizes and can be installed on full scale protection or on perimeter installation as will be mostly the case in Seychelles.
Kordon is installed during the initial stages of construction and its long lasting effect in protecting your asset against termites is guaranteed.
Field tests carried out in Australia where termites are a major problem shows that Kordon can last up to 50 years or more. To support this KORDON BAYER offers a guarantee of ten years if termites attack a property that has had Kordon installed. What better guarantee?
The environmental aspect was stressed in the PowerPoint presentation as Kordon has no contact with the soil whatsoever as the contents of the chemical is sealed.
“It is environmentally friendly compared to the old method of spraying chemicals on the construction site which ends in polluting the ground, and waterways and eventually the ocean.
“There is no contact between the soil and the active substance. As compared to chemical biosystem, the well treated Kordon is safe for the contractor, safe for the public and safe for the environment as it doesn’t bleach or go into the water or in the sea,” said director Sebastien Hardy.
He said that apart being commonly used in Australia, Kordon is widely used in France and several other countries and comes with all certificates from the Australian building industry standards board and has also been certified by the European boards.
Manufactured and insured by Bayer, a multi-national company in Australia, only certified Kordon applicators is allowed to apply Kordon. Full training has been done to technicians and two projects have already been done in Seychelles with great success. The 100,000 euros cover works only if certified dealers of Kordon applies the product.
Questions and answers relating to the cost of the product, cost of installation, and its approval by the Planning Authority among others were then put to the panel.
Ms Gower said that cost is in accordance to the site plan and the manner in which Kordon is laid. The price is relative to each individual floor plan.
She said the Planning Authority is aware of the use of the product as two projects had successfully tried and tested Kordon this past year and there has been no complaints from the clients up to now.
To date Kordon has not received any claims of its 100,000 euros guarantee worldwide and there has been no environmental issues.
In Seychelles Pestea is the sole agent and certified applicator for Kordon which is imported from France.
