Swimming: CJSOI competition - Fred collects Seychelles’ first medals |05 June 2017

A team of young swimmers between the ages of 10 and 14 years olds left Seychelles on June 1 to take part in the CJSOI (Commission de la jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan indien) swimming competition in Reunion and they have already started claiming medals, with Tyler Fred and Daniel Ferley winning four between them on Friday and Saturday.
Fred managed to win a silver medal in the 14 years old 100m butterfly event with a time of 1:06.42, just behind gold medal winner Kilian Harzig of Reunion, who finished in 1:06.21. Mauritius’ Adrien Ciceron was third in 1:06.90.
The other Seychellois swimmer who competed in this race was Daniel Ferley, who finished 11th.
At the end of the 14 years old 400m individual medley, Fred found himself on the podium once again, this time with a bronze medal around his neck after finishing third with a time of 5:28.11. The race was won by Reunion’s Owen Registe in 5:13.84, while second place went to his colleague Kilian Harzig who finished in 5:16.88.
Daniel Ferley (5th), Damien Payet (10th) also competed in this race for Seychelles, while in the same event only for the 12-13 year olds, Johsua Miller was fourth and Alain Vidot finished 7th.
On Saturday, Fred won a third medal ‒ a silver ‒ in the 200m backstroke in a time of 2:32.89.
As for Ferley he picked up his first medal in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:17.86 also on Saturday.
Along with Fred, Ferley, Payet, Miller and Vidot, the Seychelles team comprises Nathan Nagapin to complete the list for boys, while Khema Elizabeth, Tamera Appasamy, Raphaella Ferley and Aisha Khan are the four girls.
The team is being led by Priscilla Kinloch and coach Robert Suzette.
Their trip has been sponsored by the National Sport Council and the Seychelles Swimming Association wishes the team every success in the competition.
The team is expected back in the country tomorrow.
