Labiche, Azemia win gold in Harare

Female high Jumper Lissa Labiche and male hurdler Ned Azemia have claimed a gold medal each for Seychelles at the Southern Region Senior Athletics Championship which was due to end yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Labiche, who was reportedly competing with an injury, managed to leap the highest to clear the bar at 1.80m to claim the gold medal ahead of the other competitors. It was not her best performance but it should prove to be a great result for the athlete as she looks to win more gold medals for Seychelles.

Meanwhile, in the 400m hurdles event, national record holder Azemia crossed the finish line in 50.94 seconds to clinch the gold medal.

Azemia’s performance was not too far from his record of 50.74 seconds set during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and such a performance should be encouraging for the young athlete as he looks to make 2017 another record-breaking year.

Other local athletes taking part in the championship are Sharry Dodin, Leeroy Henriette, Joanne Lou-Toy, Yannick Magnan and Iven Moïse.
