Swimming - National Open Championship this weekend |28 June 2017
The Seychelles Swimming Association will be celebrating the country’s National Day with its National Open Championship this weekend.
Held every year, the championship will see swimmers compete across various events, with awards given to the top swimmers based on the points they accumulate through their performances.
This year’s championship will begin as of Friday at 4.30pm at the national swimming pool at Roche Caïman and will last until Sunday July 2.
Last year’s championship saw the emergence of Samuele Rossi as one of the country’s top swimmers as he broke three national records over the three days.
Rossi’s stopped the clock at 30.75 seconds in the 50m breaststroke event to erase Pierre-Andre Adam’s previous time of 30.93 seconds, while he also got a new 200m breaststroke record of 2 minutes 32.60 seconds (2:32.60), improving on his own time of 2:33.60.
Finally, with a time of 1:08.52 he managed a new 100m breaststroke record, just edging out Pierre-Andre Adam’s previous record of 1:09.00 which was set back in 2013.
The Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA) will be hoping for similar performances at this year’s championship and hopefully we will see a new star steal the show during the three days.
