Artist profile - Richard Ally: ‘Keep persevering no matter what!’ |13 July 2017

Every week the Entertainment page will try to bring you a short profile on a Seychellois artist, be it in the performing, visual or other forms of arts.

In our 22nd profile, readers will learn more about the talented photographer Richard Ally.

Richard is a well known photographer; he can be seen at different venues and events such as live concerts, Holy Communion, weddings, among others.

Five years ago he decided to venture into the photography business called Richard’s Photograph. Since that day he has made a name for himself by taking pictures and making memories out of it.

 

Q: Tell us more about the talented Richard?

A: I work full time at Bossy & Co Distillery Pty Ltd. I enjoy spending time with friends and certainly enjoy going to the beach at Beau Vallon. I also love La Digue so whenever I can I go there for the weekend. I am outgoing and friendly, very active on Facebook and one of my hobbies is planting as it relaxes my mind.

 

Q: When did you start your career as a photographer, and why?

A:  It was six years ago. I’ve always had a passion for photography and I was inspired by Johnny Volcère who encouraged me to pursue that passion and here I am today.

 

Q: How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?

A: One of the ways is through Youtube tutorials and another is through other photographers’ work and guidance.

 

Q: Among your works, which one is your favourite and why?

A: It is definitely wedding because it is such a great platform to explore. I enjoy the personal photoshoot with the newlyweds and it is great to know that I am helping them mark a memorable event in their lives and create memories that will last a lifetime.

 

Q: Whose work has influenced you most?

A: Locally it is Marsha Dine and internationally it is definitely Backlight Photography.

 

Q:  What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

A: Keep persevering no matter what!

 

Q: How do you overcome negative comments from among the society?                                                                                       

A: I don’t let it get personal and just learn to take things easy.

 

Q: What hidden talents do you have?

A: I can play the drums and certainly painting and decorating, mainly home décor.

Q: Which ingredient do you think makes you special and unique as a photographer? 

A: My outgoing personality.

 

Q: What can we expect from you in the near future?

 A: More quality work and creativity as well.
