Falaine Dora for Miss University Africa |28 September 2017

Falaine Dora is hoping to do well at the Miss University Africa pageant

A former student at the Seychelles Maritime Academy (SMA), Falaine Dora will represent Seychelles at the forthcoming Miss University Africa pageant to be held in December in Nigeria.

The 18-year-old model will showcase her expertise on the ramp with 53 other beauties with brain to battle for the much coveted crown.

Recently having competed in the Miss Seychelles 2017, regardless of not winning any prizes, Falaine stood out among the 13 other girls by having been selected to take part in such renowned pageant which is the Miss University Africa (MUA) by the director of Coral Models Seychelles Agency Joelle Fabre.

MUA was started in 2010 and is the only competition of its kind, where models from 53 African countries participate.

The pageant is a non-bikini affair which promotes and celebrates the beauty and potentials of students on the African countries.

To make her dreams become a reality the young talented model needs more than 40,000 votes to get her to the end of the line, and accomplish her dream.

The young lady from Les Mamelles needs her country votes, by going on the Facebook page ‘missuniversityafrica’ and like her photo or the link https://www.facebook.com/Missuniversityafrica-101018686648410/.

In an interview with Seychelles NATION Falaine showed her enthusiasm at having been selected to compete in such competition.

Seychelles NATION (SN): Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Falaine Dora (F.D):  I am only 18 years, from Les Mamelles district. I went to Plaisance primary and secondary school, then continued my studies at the SMA. Before competing in the Miss Seychelles 2017 beauty pageant, I was really a shy person, but after the competition I gained more confidence in myself and have become the lady I am today.

SN: How do you feel about going to participate in such competition?

F.D: For me it is an opportunity to interact with 53 women from all the countries in Africa and share our culture and knowledge, which will be a once in a lifetime experience. If I win it will give me the opportunity to become an ambassador for Seychelles and other countries in Africa.

SN: Why is such competition important for Africa and for Seychelles?

F.D: Having a pageant that is based on the intelligence of African women is a way to promote how strong the female brain is and to elevate the standards of what is perceived to be beautiful. It is also an opportunity to represent Seychelles and show that you need to be intelligent, mature, motivated to have a successful life. It is really a great honour to represent my nation. So I am asking for the support of my fellow Seychellois by liking my picture on Facebook and Instagram. I am also doing other necessary preparations to ensure that I don’t come back home empty handed.

SN: Was it your dream to become a model?

F.D:  Since participating in Miss Seychelles, I was able to gather a lot of experience and it allowed me to enhance my knowledge about beauty pageant. Having had such an adventure, I want to learn more about the modelling industry, and with the help of Joelle Fabre, I will be able to accomplish my goal.

SN: What other special talents do you have?

F.D: I love singing; I came from a family of singers such as my cousin Isham, Collin and Isis Rath who are well known on the local music scene. I also have a great passion for cooking Creole food.

SN: What do you want to achieve in the future?

F.D: I want to further my studies at the university in conservation and biology, but if I get an opportunity to be successful in the modelling industry I will take it. It’s not about beauty, it is the way you portray yourself, and the way you think and having the will to succeed. By being able to reach such level, I am also advertising my beautiful country.

SN: Any words to get Seychelles voting for you?

F.D:  Without my country I won’t be able to accomplish such dream, I need my country’s support by voting for me on Facebook and Instagram.  We are a small country, but with very talented individuals in our own ways. I also want to thank everyone who helped during Miss Seychelles, and after, as well as Joelle Fabre for allowing me such opportunity to participate in the Miss University Africa pageant.
