African Windsurfing Championship Gardette assured of silver medal |02 December 2017

Jean-Marc Gardette will not bring home the much-awaited RSX windsurfing gold medal from the African Windsurfing Championship which ends today at the Moonbeach Resort in Egypt.

According to Gardette, yesterday was windy with wind up to 25 knots in the first race and he managed to round the upwind mark in first position, but he was beaten on the reach and finished fourth.

Then the organisers decided to abandon all the races due to wind above 30 knots. But in the afternoon when the wind dropped a bit, the sailboarders went out for another race and Gardette finished second.

In second place with 19.4 points after yesterday’s 10th and 11th races, for the silver medal Gardette will not catch leader Bouras Hamza of Algeria with just one race on today’s programme.

“I’m happy with my result after getting back on the class after one year since the Olympic Games. Now training continues and hopefully next year I can take the title,” said Gardette.
