IOT Open Day good initiative to attract more local workers |08 March 2018
An Open Day organised yesterday by the Indian Ocean Tuna (IOT) has been described as a good initiative to attract more local workers to work at the tuna canning factory.
The remark was made by the Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status, Myriam Telemaque, at the opening of the event.
The minister also praised IOT for improving the working conditions of all its staff.
“IOT has provided a safe working environment among other initiatives for local workers to join its tuna canning production business and today’s Open Day is one of them,” she said.
On his part, IOT’s first Seychellois chief executive, Nichol Elizabeth, spoke of the Open Day as getting the community to understand the operations of the tuna canning factory and the different kind of opportunities that the company provides to its workers.
“Our main objective is to attract more Seychellois to join IOT so as to benefit from all the opportunities that we offer,” Mr Elizabeth said.
He stated that it is IOT’s aim to become the biggest tuna canning factory in the Indian Ocean by 2025.
The Open Day yesterday enabled locals, including students, to have a glimpse of the different job opportunities available at IOT.
Touring an exhibition mounted for the occasion, the public learned of various schemes and benefits available for employees to supplement their salaries.
Other activities organised annually for the IOT employees are a Sports Day organised on Labour Day; end of year staff party, a staff children’s party; long service awards; and the best overall employee and supervisor selected quarterly.
The newly launched K-Radio was present at the Open Day with live roadshow broadcast.
