Hendricks Gappy part of Commonwealth observer team to Antigua, Barbuda polls |27 March 2018

Hendricks  Gappy, former chairperson of the Seychelles Electoral Commission, was part of a three-member team chosen by the Commonwealth to observe general election held in Antigua and Barbuda on March 21, 2018.

The team was led by Janet G. Bostwick, former Foreign Minister, Attorney-General and member of Parliament of the Bahamas.

The other member of the team was Linda Duffield, former chief executive of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, former Diplomat of the United Kingdom.

The Commonwealth observer group was in Antigua and Barbuda from March 14 to March 26.

During its stay in the country the group met Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the electoral commission, representatives of political parties, civil society representatives, media organisations and domestic and international observer groups.

It was on February 24 that Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced that Antigua and Barbuda would hold a general election on March 21, over a year before elections were constitutionally due.

The Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) won the 2018 general election, gaining one more seat in the parliament. It’s a 15-1-1 win for ABLP, United Progressive Party and Barbuda People’s Movement respectively.

The Democratic alliance did not win any seat.
