Job agencies should attract more locals seeking employment |10 April 2018
The employment sector, be it the concerned ministry or worker’s union, encourages the services provided by job agencies to supply local workers to employers, a senior worker’s trade unionist has said.
Antoine Robinson, the secretary general of the Seychelles Federation of Workers’ Union (SFWU), was speaking at a gala dinner event organised by the HD job agency at the Chilli Bar and Restaurant last Saturday night, an event aimed at marketing the services it provides.
He spoke of the current situation in the country where there is an influx of foreign workers and noted that there are Seychellois workers who want to work.
“The employment agencies come in to provide them with such a chance by placing them in the appropriate jobs,” said Mr Robinson.
He also cautioned against the lack of local workforce where foreign workers are also needed to fill in the void.
In her short remarks, Letimie Dookley, the director for special employment programme in the department of employment congratulated HD job agency and expressed her wish for the good working relationship and hope that more local people would take up employment opportunities through their agency.
The HD employment agency is a private job recruitment company owned by Habib and Daphne Rahman.
HD job agency recruits both local and foreign workers for local employers.
The function of HD job agency, as is the case for all such agencies, is to alleviate the process of recruitment by an employer or company and to assist with their staffing needs. The agency matches employers to their employees.
Guests attending the promotion event included most of their clients that require workers to be employed in various areas of employment.
HD agency which is located in Salamat House, La Poudriere Lane recruits foreign workers from 22 countries mainly India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Upon recruiting a Bangladeshi worker, the HD job agency has to also provide a one way ticket from Bangladesh to Seychelles for employment.
