Takamaka secondary school students visit UniSey |02 May 2018
Last week, the University of Seychelles welcomed a first group of students from Takamaka secondary school for an educational tour of its Anse Royale campus. The students were accompanied by their teachers and parents.
The activity forms part of a wider programme by the parent community at Takamaka under the theme ‘Education à la vie’. This activity seeks to inspire the students to start thinking of tertiary education as an option in future.
University of Seychelles’ (UniSey) marketing director, Dolivette Chang-Ko, welcomed the group through a presentation of what university education is all about and this included a slideshow, videos, a quiz and interaction with the students.
The students had the opportunity to visit the UniSey environmental science lab where they interacted with some UniSey students and lab technicians in several microscopic-related activities.
They also experienced a computing session in the computer lab through educational games and lectures about the different computing information systems programmes and their benefits.
The Confucius Institute of UniSey further gave a Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstration to the secondary one visitors and it was very well appreciated. The visit concluded with a tour of the library and the students also got the chance to interact with the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Justin Valentin, and other staff members.
After the visit, the students described the event as “fun and interesting” and added that “we’ve learned a lot about the university”.
As for the parents, they said it was a great initiative and following the visit, they could hear their children talking about how aspiring it is to be a UniSey student.
The UniSey has confirmed that this outreach event will be done for other schools during the holidays.
