Baie Lazare crèche gets renovated dining room for new school term |15 May 2018

Pupils of the Baie Lazare crèche began the new term yesterday with a newly renovated dining room while the new Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Jeanne Siméon addressed students of Bel Eau primary during the assembly.

Minister Siméon has called on pupils to take their studies more seriously and have asked parents to engage more in their children’s school life and to support the school and the teachers.

The minister also expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness at the start of the new school term. She also called for better communication between parents, teachers and students.

“Teachers have made a promise to help the students and they have to continue to provide the much-needed attention to their students. We all need to work together for a better education for our students and students I want you to be more responsible towards your education,” said Minister Siméon.

Following the assembly at the Bel Eau primary school, officials from the education department joined officials from the Procurement Oversight Unit (POU) of the Ministry of Finance, Trade and Economic Planning to officially witness the handover of the renovated dining hall at the Baie Lazare primary school.

The renovation of the dining room was made possible thanks to the excellent partnership between the education department and the Procurement Oversight Unit.

The education department contributed R57,000 while the POU donated R20,000 towards the project which will cater for some 87 students.

Renovation works took place on Labour Day when a group of POU staff joined forces to give the dining room a new look. Intelvision cable TV connection has also been installed in the new dining area, of which the monthly dues will be paid by the POU.

It was the principal secretary for early childhood, primary and secondary education, Dr Odile Decommarmond and senior procurement analyst Bernadette Boniface who officially cut the ribbon to open the renovated Baie Lazare crèche.

Also present at the ceremony were the principal secretary for higher education and human resources development, Dr Linda Barallon, the director of primary schools Cyril Pillay, the head teacher of the school Agnelle Monthy, POU staff, teachers, parents and students.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION after the ceremony, Miss Boniface said it is important to contribute towards the community.

“This forms part of our social activities programme to build up our team spirit and to also contribute towards the community. The Baie Lazare crèche was chosen through a special lottery draw on school projects that require urgent attention, and such renovation will provide the students with a new and more comfortable dining area, with Intelvision connection,” she said.

Thanking the education department and the POU, the head teacher of the school Agnelle Monthy added that the students will have a more comfortable dining area.

“On behalf of the school, I would like to thank the education department and the POU who made such a wonderful gesture towards our school. We had so many projects, and renovating the dining area was part of it,” she said.
