Amazon Betting adding flair to the World Cup fever |30 May 2018

With the 2018 Fifa World Cup fast approaching, local betting house Amazon Betting is bringing a new game, adding more flair to the already existing fever among local football fans.

Not so different from the usual betting, the new entertainment is in the form of a prediction sheet that should be filled before the World Cup kicks off on Thursday June 14. Copies of the prediction sheet came out in the Saturday issue of the Seychelles NATION newspaper.

To be able to enter the competition, individuals must spend at least R100 on naming the outright winners of the World Cup at one of the participating outlets.

In other words, they should place a minimum R100 bet on who they think will win the World Cup.

Those taking part need to fill the form, predicting first the round of 16 qualifiers, followed by all the winners throughout the knockout stages, up to the final match.

They will get three points for each correct bet for the round of 16, with the maximum points for this prediction being 48.

The quarterfinals will carry four points per correct bet and with eight teams going through, the maximum points for the prediction will be 32.

The semifinals will carry a maximum of 20 points with four teams ‒ five points awarded for each correct bet, while the final match will carry 16 points for two correct betting.

Six points will be awarded per correct betting for the third-place play-off.

Winners will be decided according to the number of points collected.

A total of R20,000 are up for grab in the form of cash prizes.

The first prize is R10,000, while the second-place winner will pocket R5,000, with R2,500 as third prize.

Fourth and fifth-place finishers will receive R1,500 and R1,000 respectively.

According to Amazon Betting managing director Muditha Gunatilake, football being the country’s number one sport and the World Cup being the biggest competition, they decided to come up with the promotion as a way of bringing more fun and excitement to the event.
