New beach volleyball league coming soon |14 June 2018
The Seychelles Volleyball Federation has announced that it will soon be introducing a new beach volleyball league for both men’s and women’s teams.
Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) secretary general Terry Servina has said registration for the new league which will spike off next month is already underway and interested players have until June 22 to register.
The registration fee is R100 per team of two players in both categories.
Mr Servina explained that in terms of rules and regulations, the SVF is ready, while it is still discussing on the various venues it will use in order to decentralise the sport.
He noted that players involved in the normal national league can also join the beach volleyball league, while the SVF will not take any responsibility in the event of a clash of fixtures.
In that same line, Mr Servina added that the SVF will also play league games in different locations to allow the involvement of inner-island teams and also to bring beach volleyball closer to the fans. He also added that in addition to the league, the SVF will also host regular championships such as during the yearly Regatta among others. Another aim of the league is to prepare a national selection for next year’s Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Mauritius.
Mr Servina, however, added that the SVF is still in discussions with the higher authorities regarding the eligibility of players taking part in both beach and regular six-a-side volleyball at the IOIG.
Players and teams interested in joining the beach volleyball league can collect registration forms at the volleyball office at the Palais des Sports.
