Hindu temple starts renovation work |09 September 2004

Hindu scriptures indicate that after 12 years of a temple’s consecration, it has to be renovated and Kumbabisekam, or consecration, has to be conducted to reinstate the divine power on the deities installed at the temple, according to the Hindu Kovil Sangam.

The temple was originally consecrated on May 6, 1992. With 12 years in the books, the executive committee of the Hindu Kovil Sangam decided to begin the renovation works after receiving the support of its members.

Special prayers will begin on Thursday at 9 a.m. with the Vigneswara Pooja and Ganapathy Homam leading into the evening with the Ankurarppanam and Yagasala Pooja.

The Punaravarttana Ashtabandhana Balalaya Prathishta celebration, which signifies the symbolic transfer of divine power on to the portraits, will be conducted on Friday, beginning at 5 a.m.

According to the Kovil Sangam, with the blessings of Shri Navasakthi Vinayagar, Balalaya Pratishta will be performed between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

After the Balalaya celebration, the temple’s major festivals will be temporarily discontinued but normal daily Poojas for the main deity will continue until the renovation of the temple is completed and the consecration is held.

The Hindu Kovil Sangam invites all devotees to participate in “this divine temple activity.”
