New housing Estate opens at Brilliant-44 families benefit

The new Brillant housing estate

The families came from Les Mamelles, Cascade and Roche Caiman districts, while two came from other districts of Mahe.

The Minister for Land Use and Habitat, Joel Morgan, announced this on Wednesday, when he officially opened the housing estate, as part of activities to mark World Habitat Day.

He said it had become necessary to build the houses at Brilliant because of various difficulties his ministry encountered with the terrain at Les Mamelles.

He said half of the new houses have two bedrooms each while the rest have three apiece.

He also said that as with the Les Mamelles Redevelopment project, it was the China Shenyang construction company that erected the houses, within 23 months.

"It is important to note that the Exim Bank of China was ready to help us with the loan needed to complete the project," he said, adding that the bank thus demonstrated the confidence it had for its implementation.

"They knew we were serious that the money would be appropriately used," he said.

Minister Morgan, assisted by the district administrator for Cascade, Bernadette Racombo, unveiled the plaque to officially open the estate, while resident Murlin Rusteau expressed appreciation to the government for the houses on behalf of her family and of her fellow residents.

Among those who attended the ceremony were the Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles, Mrs Chen Meifen, the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Les Mamelles, Bernard Georges, and the MNA for Cascade, Charles Decomarmond.
