Mrs Brioche was elected during the organisation’s second convention, which took place on Saturday November 27 at the National Theatre, Mont Fleuri.

Mrs Brioche, who is now a member of SNP’s executive committee, replaces Mrs Cecile Berlouis, who had been in that post for the last two years.

Desheela Bastienne is the new secretary while Mrs Janette GrandCourt has been re-elected treasurer.

The new office bearers have a two-year mandate.

This year’s convention was attended by representatives of SNP women from all districts on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue as well as the party’s members of the National Assembly.

While addressing the audience the new chairperson, Mrs Brioche, vowed to continue promoting women, particularly the mothers, who are the pillars of the society especially in upholding family life and values.

She said that with the economic difficulties, mothers are struggling to give their children and family a better life.

Mrs Brioche also talked about the role of women in the family and called on Seychellois women to join the organisation “to continue in the struggle for a better life for every Seychellois”.

Before welcoming the three members to their new post, SNP leader, Wavel Ramakalawan, congratulated the SNP women’s organisation for organising the event.

Mr Ramkalawan also had words of encouragement for the new committee and thanked the former members for their hard work.

Mr Ramkalawan said that even if the economic climate is not favourable at the moment, there is a need to work harder to better the situation.
