Fewer water restrictions after rains |08 June 2005
This follows the recent precipitation which has boosted reserves in Rochon and Cascade dams which are now full to overflowing capacity.
Water from the two dams is being transferred to the bigger reservoir at La Gogue.
Public relations officer Linda Philoe of the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) said this Tuesday June 7, when she noted that La Gogue now holds 55 percent water, up from 45 percent when the restrictions were imposed recently.
“We are maintaining the restrictions to Victoria and the areas from town up to the boundary of Cascade and up to Anse Etoile,” she said, adding that the desalination plant at Providence is still operating.
She said the restrictions in the areas mentioned will continue to be in force from 6.00 p.m. until 6.00 a.m., but that PUC is monitoring the situation to see if the hours can be revised.
Meanwhile, the Seychelles Meteorological Services said that the prevailing pattern of rainfall is expected to continue for two to three more days.
“We nevertheless expect a decline in the rainfall starting next week,” meteorologist Francois Albert told Nation.
