Football: Sunkiss’d division one-Nancy’s late strike sinks SMB |25 July 2005

Last Friday at Stad Linite, Anse Réunion bounced back from defeat with a 2-0 win over Sunshine.

St Louis strike late

In the top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, St Louis inflicted a first defeat on third-placed SMB to at the same time stretch their unbeaten run to six games.

St Louis always had the edge over SMB who opted for a more defensive approach as they packed the midfield.
The boys of coach Marc Mathiot should have taken the lead in the 28th minute when Roy Julie was hacked down inside the penalty. Referee Jean-Claude Labrosse pointed to the spot and Malagasy defender Ralida stepped up to take the penalty kick but his shot was pushed out by goalie Antoine Dubel who had guessed the right way.

St Louis kept up the pressure and in the 62nd minute Alpha Baldé’s corner was headed just wide by Philip Zialor.

Seconds later, Zialor was again unlucky as his lob grazed a post with goalie Dubel caught in no man’s land.

In the 77th minute, Zialor’s header crashed against a post with the goal begging.

SMB were reduced to 10 men in the 82nd minute when Nigel Siméon was sent off for his second bookable offence.

SMB almost stunned St Louis in the 87th minute as Terry Chang-Tak-Hue’s free-kick was saved at the second attempt by goalie Eugène Valentin.

St Louis stole all the points on the stroke of full-time. Captain Terry Cafrine stormed forward to centre to Zialor whose header was spilled by keeper Dubel. Substitute Nancy rammed home the loose ball to give St Louis another victory.

Mathiot was full of praise for his players at the end as they had dominated the match.

La Passe thrash Baie Ste Anne 96ers

On the same day on La Digue, defending league champions La Passe thrashed bottom club Baie Ste Anne 96ers 9-0. Ugandan Jimmy Kidega opened the scoring for La Passe in the fifth minute before Malagasy captain Bruno Saindini made it 2-0 in the ninth minute.

Tanzanian Salum Kinje scored a brace in the space of four minutes (29th and 32nd minutes). Saindini netted his second personal goal in the 35th minute and defender Henry Ladouce’s 38th minute strike brought the half-time score to 6-0.

Like in the first half, Kidega scored first for La Passe two minutes after the resumption of play. Jude Ladouce got his name on the scorers’ list in the 65th minute and Malagasy striker Eric Rajaobery, who had replaced Kinje in the 55th minute, completed the scoring in the 79th minute.

St Michel’s Nastinan scores a hat-trick

Malagasy Leonni Nastinan scored a hat-trick on Praslin to give St Michel an important 3-1 win against Survivors.

In the first half, Nastinan beat Survivors’ goalkeeper Wilfred Ally from the penalty spot after Henny Dufresne had been fouled inside the danger zone.

Survivors equalised after the break, but Nastinan scored again from the spot in the second half following another foul on Dufresne. He completed his hat-trick late in the match with a headed goal.

Anse Réunion bounce back

Last Friday at Stad Linite, Anse Réunion brought Sunshine down to earth with 2-0 win.
The strike-force of Firinga Fahidany and Yelvany Rose always looked threatening although there were very little goalmouth actions in the first half.

Anse Réunion had welcomed Etienne Fanchette and goalie Ricky Rose from suspension though Roderick Rose and Malagasy Jocelyn were out serving suspension.

In the first real chance, Fahidany’s shot was blocked by goalie Jean De Dieu Nyezimana. In the 71st minute, Fahidany was again denied by goalie Nyezimana.

Five minutes later, Anse Réunion took the lead through Fahidany and Yelvanny Rose added the second with a header from Congolese Dominique Kiyambu’s corner.
