The road was completed in January  this year.

Anse Boileau MNA Andre Pool and Seychelles People’s Progressive Front (SPPF) central committee member for the district, Olsen Vidot, met with neighbourhood residents near the start of the new road, which connects to the twists and turns of the original Cap St Marie route accessed from the main road along the coast.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Pool urged the residents in the area to keep the road clean and in good condition. He also gave his assurance that the government would continue with such projects “in all corners of all districts.”

The MNA went on to assist a number of small children in cutting the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the road.

Anse Boileau District Administrator Valcy Naïken said that first talk of the need for the road generated in 1992.

Residents of a cluster of homes high up on the hillside had to contend with a road deemed too narrow and steep. “For them it was quite difficult,” she said.

Work started in November 2002 to improve the road, and the R2.6 million project was carried out by a private contractor.

Saturday evening’s ceremony also included a moutya and other festivities.
