Eye surgeons to operate on more than 70 patients in three days |03 September 2005

Dr Harish Rupani and Dr Ashok Shah will be working with a team of ophthalmologists from Victoria Hospital.

This is the second intensive operation session carried out in Seychelles by a team of foreign eye surgeons.

The first such session, which was dubbed an "eye-camp", was in July 2004 when 54 patients benefited from cataract operations.

A cataract is a cloudy change in the lens of the eyes. It can be caused by ageing, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, injury to the eye and some other general conditions such as diabetes.

The visit of the two surgeons has been sponsored by the Freemasons of Seychelles and East Africa, as part of a growing collaboration between the Health Department and the Freemasons.
