Bob Marley's son to perform live in Seychelles |01 October 2005
The music of Bob Marley, dubbed ‘The first Third World superstar’, stretches back over nearly two decades and still remains timeless and universal despite the Jamaican reggae artist's death 24 years ago. His legend lives on through the music of his children Stephen, Ziggy, Damian, Julian, Kimany, Cedella among others.
Born in London in 1975, Julian has been around music all his life and has been blessed both by his father's great talent and legacy and by the unique perspective that comes with an upbringing in a multicultural community.
He recorded his first song at age five at the Marley family home in Kingston, Jamaica. After that Julian became a skilful, self-taught musician, mastering the bass, drums, and keyboards.
In 1989, he released his first album entitled Uprising - also the name of his band. He moved to Jamaica in 1992 and began working with such reggae veterans as Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett, Earl ‘Wire’ Lindo, Tyrone Downie and Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith.
A veteran performer despite his youth, Julian has performed at Jamaica's Sumfest and Sunsplash shows, and has toured in Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, London and Ethiopia.
Before coming to Seychelles, Julian will perform at the stade Maryse Justin in Mauritius on October 22.
So far, Julian has released two albums – Lion in the Morning (1996) and A Time & Place (2003).
His song list includes titles like Father's Place, Where She Lay, Harder Dayz, Loving Clear, Blossoming And Blooming, Lion In The Morning.
His works reflect his roots and heritage.
The organisers of the local performance have said that they expect it to be a big splash.
More information about the event will be communicated in due course.
