STB TO LAUNCH TRIAL RUN OF ‘BAZAR OVAN’ IN SOUTH MAHE |08 October 2005
The bazaar has been dubbed Bazar Ovan, signifying the authentic, old-fashioned Creole charm and ambience of southern Mahe, and will be staged on October 16, October 23 and October 30 for a three-week trial basis. The bazaar will run from about 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on those Sundays at Ros Kopra.
After the success of Bazar Labrinn, STB organisers are excited about the prospects for Bazar Ovan, but are not looking to simply duplicate the Beau Vallon bazaar in the South.
As many takeaways and shops – as well as a number of entertainment venues – are usually closed on Sundays, the STB has identified the southern bazaar as an attraction that would be helpful to residents and enjoyable for visitors.
STB projects the bazaar could be especially attractive for Sunday picnickers and beach-goers to the South looking for a spot of lunch. For tourists, and even those visiting on cruise ships during the peak October-April season, the bazaar would be a much needed Sunday diversion.
In addition to locally made products by artisans, the primary attraction will be cuisine, featuring a wide range of authentic Creole dishes, as well as other popular specialties like nougat koko, grilled breadfruit and pwason boukannen.
Farmers from South Mahe are also being encouraged to take part in offering their wares and produce.
