Table Tennis: Monthly Challenge competition-Chang-Time, Isaac winners |26 October 2005
Both the men's and women's singles competitions were decided on a league format.
Vincent Isaac came out the winner in the men's singles with three wins in as many games played. He defeated David Low-Thion 4-0, Achille Dodin 4-3 and Peter Youpa 4-2. Achille Dodin took the runner-up spot with two wins.
In the ladies' singles, both Margaret Chang-Time and runner-up Anissa Benstrong collected four wins each.
Even though Chang-Time lost her match-up against Benstrong, she came out top with a better set score difference. She finished with 19 sets for and 6 against while Benstrong won 17 sets and lost 8.
Winner Chang-Time won three of her other four matches on 4-0 scores against Samantha François, Rita Ghislain and Petrina Mellie respectively. Her fourth victory was against Wendy Julie and it finished 4-2.
It is to note that the defending champions and the country's number one male and female players Godfrey Sultan and Janice Esparon, who are training in Belgium ahead of the forthcoming Jeux de la Francophonie in Niger in December, lead the standings with four and three wins apiece.
In the boys' under-12 singles category, Vannian Bristol came from a set down to beat Anil Nibourette 3-1 (6-11 12-10 11-9 11-4). Marline Moncherry also had to chase the score, coming from behind to beat Rubby Arrisol 3-1 (5-11 12-10 11-4 12-10) to win the girls' under-12 singles final.
The girls' under-14 winner was Berrnadette Marie who beat Angel Landry 3-2 (11-9 11-9 4-11 11-13 11-9).
Damien Joseph was the winner in the boys' under-14 category after beating Mike Alcindor 3-0 (11-7 11-8 13-11.
In the ladies' doubles, there were four teams and they were drawn straight into the semifinals to decide the finalists.
Chang-Time teamed up with Benstrong to beat Petrina Mellie and Ghislain 3-0 (11-6 11-1 11-7) in the final.
