Chrystold Chetty, the Honorary President of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, was elected the new Chairman of the Finance Commission of the Federation during the General Assembly of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the Council of Delegates, which took place recently in Seoul, South Korea.

The vice-president of the Seychelles Red Cross, Daniella Larue, was elected member on the Development Commission of the Federation.

During the election of the Board of Governors and members of the different commissions, the President of the Federation, Juan Manuel del Torro Suarez from the Spanish Red Cross, was re-elected for a second term.

Besides Mr Chetty, the Seychelles delegation at the General Assembly included the President of the National Society, Colette Servina; the Programme Coordinator, Roy Nibourette and the National Youth Coordinator, Sandra Payet.

The General Assembly, which takes place every two years, is attended by all the National Societies of Red Cross and Red Crescent in the world and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The General Assembly, which received reports from the Secretariat, various commissions and working groups, also discussed the future of the Federation, adopted the review report of the Strategy 2010 of the Federation. It also looked at the current world crisis and the humanitarian agenda in many countries and deliberated on the question of a new emblem for the Movement and the future lead role of the Federation in providing shelter during disaster.

Two new National Societies -- the Comoros Red Crescent and the Red Cross of East Timor -- were admitted to the Federation, taking the membership to 183 countries.
