Garbage truck leaves sites more filthy |14 January 2006
I have been concerned about very offensive smell that comes from the various sites where dustbins are located, and all the time I have been thinking it is the rubbish inside the bins that smells so badly.
To my surprise, however, I have now realised that almost no smell comes from the sites until the garbage collection trucks come along.
After the waste is loaded, the trucks seem to compress it releasing very offensively smelling slurry which flows to the ground.
The waste left behind takes days to dry up and attracts many flies, and even as the collection vehicle drives away, it spills and leaves behind a trail of the sickening liquid. Besides the negative image the offensive smell might give our otherwise clean and beautiful country, I feel the odour could also affect people with certain health conditions, making them more unwell.
Something is obviously wrong with the trucks and the agency operating them should do something about the situation without any delay.
