SSC gets underway |21 January 2006
The flotilla of Dream Yachts chartered vessels made a trial crossing from Praslin to the Wharf Marina, Mahe, on Friday, where the international crews were collected and final checks made.
The contestants put to sea this afternoon for a cruise back to Praslin ahead of race one, tomorrow morning, which will take the teams over a one lap course, setting out from the Cote D’or, rounding Curieuse, Grand Soeur and Aride before returning to Praslin.
“It has been a lot of preparation, but now we are good to go. It is something that we hope will put Seychelles on the map, that it will be first many and that from here on it will continue to grow,” said a spokesperson for the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) which has been working alongside the Belgian Briefings Organisation to set up the event.
At a press conference this evening – to be attended by local media and a range of international journalists - the competitors will be welcomed to the competition by outgoing STB Executive Chairman Sylvestre Radegonde and Philippe Martin of the Briefings Organisation.
The race is being run under International Sailing Federation (ISAF) rules by the Seychelles Yacht Club.
