Exhibitions, guided tours to mark World Health Day |06 April 2006
The activities, which will be launched Thursday April 6 in the afternoon at the Victoria Hospital, will span over a week.
World Health Day is being commemorated in Seychelles under the theme "Working together to celebrate our health."
Prior to the launching ceremony members of the public are being invited to participate in a special religious service at the Ministry of Health’s headquarters (Red Roof building). The service will begin at 2.30 p.m.
Members of the public will have the chance to view an exhibition highlighting major achievements in health from 1976 to 2006 on the compound of the Red Roof building as from Friday April 7. They are also being invited to participate in guided tours of various facilities at the Victoria Hospital.
Activities on Praslin and La Digue, to be launched Friday, will be marked by similar exhibitions and there will also be guided tours in the hospitals' facilities at Baie Ste Anne, Grand Anse and on La Digue.
The public will be able to view the exhibitions and participate in the tours until Wednesday April 12 on Mahe and Thursday April 13 on Praslin and La Digue.
Giving details about the exhibitions, especially the main one to take place on Mahe, the coordinator of the event, Dr Anne Gabriel, said it will feature exhibits in the form of pictures, objects, artefacts and simulations depicting the milestones and main accomplishments since independence in the areas of human resources, infrastructure, supplies, health programmes and policies as well as strategies.
There will also be a stall on health-related achievements allocated to the Department of Social Affairs as well as those depicting contributions and achievements by other partners in health, such as non-governmental organisations, private sector and faith-based organisations.
World Health Day is this year being devoted to the health workers, to celebrate their dignity and value as the heart that keeps alive a health system.
