Seven new monuments declared |18 April 2006
Five are on Mahe, while one is on Silhouette and the other one is on La Digue.
The seven will be featured in an exhibition to be staged at the International Conference Centre today as part of activities organised to mark the International Monuments and Sites Day normally observed on April 18.
A spokesperson for the National Heritage division said this on Thursday, adding that the division is seeking consent to declare another four soon.
He only named the monuments, saying that details will be given during the exhibition.
The new monuments are Miray Demon at Anse des Genets, Lenstiti Kreol at Au Cap, Grann Kaz at Domaine de Val Pres at Au Cap, Ros Koson also known as Ros Payanke at Anse Louis, Ros Sodyer at Takamaka, Eustache Sardes’ house on La Digue and Dauban Mausoleum on Silhouette.
Tour operators, hotel and tourism students and culture management officials will on Saturday be taken on a tour of the new monuments to sensitise them on the monuments’ presence.
The Seychelles People’s Progressive Front’s (SPPF) museum in Victoria was the immediate last national monument to be declared in 1986.
The division will also today present books on the previous monuments to the Ministry of Education and Youth.
