Mancham to attend first meeting of World Future Council

 Mr Mancham

The currently defined purpose of the WFC is to build an integrated global forum based on shared ethical values; create a trusted, long-term voice to speak up for the interest of future generations; and to overcome current global action gaps by adding moral authority to democratic power.

Among other dignitaries to attend are H.R.H Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan, President, the Club of Rome; Olivier Giscard d’Estaing of France, Chairman of Copam;  Bianca Jagger of Nicaragua , Human Rights Campaigner; Frances Moore-Lappé of the USA, Founder of the Small Planet Institute; Anita Roddick of the United Kingdom, Former Chairperson Body Shop International; Hermann Scheer of Germany, President, World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE); Cyd Ho of Hong Kong, Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council; Professor Wangari Maathai of Kenya, Founder of the Green Belt Movement; Environment Minister, Kenya; Judge C.G. Weeramantry of Sri Lanka, Former Vice-President, International Court of Justice; and Vandana Shiva of India, Founder, Research Foundation for Science Technology & Ecology, Navdanya.

In a statement issued yesterday morning, Mr Mancham said that the WFC will have a crucial international role in expanding the range of what is regarded as politically possible by initiating action on what is clearly necessary.

“It is no longer tolerable for decision on issues vital to the future of humanity to be delayed or not made at all. The WFC will seek to reverse this disturbing trend by bringing together an on-going council of trusted planetary elders, global pioneers and young visionaries for the first time,” Mr Mancham said.

Mr Mancham will be leaving Seychelles next Tuesday April 25.
