Pillay-R Group-New Lucozade promotion brings reduction in prices |28 April 2006

The reduction applies to the four main Lucozade flavours, including orange, tropical, lemon and mango on sale in the bottles.

Prices of the health drinks have been brought down from R10.86 to R7.50.
According to Max Racombo, the recently appointed brand manager for the Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) Lucozade, the promotion is being done in a number of countries worldwide and will coincide with the start of the World Cup in June.

He said that though the producing company is not a major sponsor of the World Cup, GSK is seizing the opportunity to promote Lucozade as an energy drink ideal for all sportsmen, the young, the old and the sick.

Posters highlighting the reduction in prices will be put on premises of shops selling the drinks and in other public places.

One of the most active ingredients of sparkling beverage Lucozade is glucose syrup, derived from natural cereal or potato starch, which is said to be a natural source of energy.  According to Mr Racombo, the glucose syrup in Lucozade has a much lower sweetness rating than sugars such as fructose (fruit sugar), sucrose (table sugar) and glucose.

"Studies carried out have differentiated glucose syrup from sucrose, fructose and glucose both in terms of absorption and tissue uptake.

"Studies have demonstrated that Lucozade taken after exercise promotes whole body and muscle glycogen re-synthesis more than sucrose drinks," he said.

He added that Lucozade also has twice the energy of ordinary soft drinks.
According to Mr Racombo, Seychellois have had the right perception all along that Lucozade aids recovery.

"Whenever people go to visit a sick person in hospital, Lucozade is one of the main drinks that they bring along. This means that they do have the understanding that adequate intake of energy is important to speedy recovery," he explained.

According to findings of studies carried out by GSK, Lucozade is particularly valuable when energising nourishment is required during illnesses such as colds and influenza.  Lucozade is also said to be ideal for those suffering from lack of appetite as it is easy and pleasant to drink, and helps to provide a quick absorption of glucose energy.
