Allied Builders gets quality management certificate |23 May 2006
The company, which is one of the chains of businesses owned by Kurjibhai Ramji Group of Companies, received the Seychelles Standards (SS) of the Geneva-based International Standards Organisation (ISO) during a ceremony on Saturday.
The main ISO 9001:2000 registration certificate was presented to the Kurjibhai Ramji Group of Companies director, H.K Patel, and the managing director of Allied Builders, Pravin Darad, by Vice-President Joseph Belmont, while the Secretary of State, Alain Butler Payette, and the director general of the Seychelles Bureau of Standards, Terence Coopoosamy, presented the second certificate which defines the scope of registration, being building and civil engineering projects.
Held at the Le Relax Hotel at Anse Royale – one of the company’s first hotel businesses in Seychelles – the presentation ceremony was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Patrick Pillay and various other distinguished guests and partners.
In a short speech, the manager of Standardisation at SBS, Amy Quatre, said that, because customers’ needs and expectations were changing and as a result of competitive pressure and technical advances, companies were driven to continuously improve their products and processes.
“The Quality Management System approach encourages companies to analyse customer requirements, define the processes that contribute to the achievements of a product or service which is acceptable to the customer and keep those processes under control,” she said.
She however pointed out that the certification was only the beginning of the journey, as the system had to be maintained and improved to ensure its effectiveness.
Allied Builders, whose strong presence in the construction industry has been felt over the past 25 years with the realization of diverse projects of national importance, has welcomed the certification, saying that it symbolises its commitment towards both infrastructural and human resources development in Seychelles.
The company has over the past years received several accolades for being the safest and healthiest workplace in the country. Last year it joined the World Organization of Building Officials, USA, a body that has special consultative status to the United Nations.
The company’s hotel projects on both Mahe and Praslin are also being assessed for compliance with the ISO quality management systems and if successful, would be the first hotel chain in the country to get the ISO 9001:2000 certificate.
