Kickboxing-British kickboxer Oakes gets himself in shape |05 July 2006
Oakes, who stayed at Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove Hotel, Bel Ombre, was here on holiday.
He shared the gym with local boxers and used the expertise of 1998 Commonwealth Games boxing silver medallist Jerry Legras to improve his boxing techniques.
Speaking to Sports Nation, Oakes said that he was ranked number three in the world before a neck injury sustained last year forced him out of the ring.
He described the gym at Victoria Gymnasium as “very good” and added that Legras is a “talented coach”.
The British kickboxer explained that he wants to get back to some serious kickboxing after being Spanish super heavyweight champion, British national cruiser weight (88-kg) champ and winning the same title in Portugal.
