Final fence for POPs plan |19 July 2006

The plan, intended to regulate the use of dangerous POPs chemicals, neared completion in February at a workshop which drew together all proposals on the issue.

Following further meetings of the POPs national committee a final draft document will now be presented at tomorrow’s meeting, for a last read through before being submitted to the World Bank’s Global Environment Facility for a funding assessment.

The final draft has already been circulated to the bodies involved, including Ministry of Health, PUC Electricity and Seychelles Bureau of Standards, who are expected to endorse the document at the day-long meeting.

According to a press release from the Department of Environment, “During this workshop, discussions will focus on institutional arrangements, the proposed budget and the way

forward with regards to implementation and external assistance. It is expected that by the end of the day we would have reached a consensus and which would allow a formal

declaration of full acceptance by all stakeholders.”
