The Seychelles Scouts Association was invited to nominate one local scout and a scout leader to be part of the jamboree. After a series of interviews by the Seychelles Scouts Association, Audrey Rath from Beau Vallon Secondary School and Scout Leader Monica Uzice were chosen. They left the country on August 6.

Held under the slogan “See it all, Do it all, Feel it all”, the jamboree took place from August 9 to August 14 in Suncheon, Jeollanamdo which is about 380 km from the capital Seoul.
All together 52 countries were represented and they were grouped by villages in the larger camp site.

The official sponsors of this event were the National Youth Commission, Jeollanamdo Province and the Ministry of National Defense of Korea.

Following the opening on August 9, the scouts participated in a host of activities ranging from  exhibitions, city tours and water sports, to cultural activities and performances.

According to Ms Rath and Mrs Uzice, the International Night, held on August 11, was the highlight of the jamboree. During the night, they were able to discover different cultures and be with new friends from around the globe. All the 52 participating countries displayed their national flags.

However the scouts from Seychelles were only guests and not participants of this particular event.

The jamboree ended officially on August 13 when all scouts were required to wear their uniforms.

Both Ms Rath and Mrs Uzice, who returned to Seychelles on August 18, have described their visit as “an experience of a lifetime” and said they were very grateful to have been chosen to participate in this event.
The next jamboree will be held in 2012.
