Volleyball: African U20 Championship-Seychelles need to improve to win |19 September 2006
Coach Marie-Ange Bouchereau’s players badly needed a win to stay in the hunt for the only vacant spot reserved for Africa in next year’s prestigious Fédération internationale de volley-ball (FIVB) World Championship.
In their first match on day one, Saturday, against defending champions and hosts Egypt, Seychelles lost 0-3 (11-25 9-25 16-25) in under an hour.
Defeat for Seychelles in yesterday’s match would very well mean saying bye bye to the sweet spot in the 11th Women’s Under-20 African Nations Championship.
Today, the country’s team play 2004 bronze medallists Senegal and meet Tunisia tomorrow in their final match of the championship being played on a round-robin format.
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s other match, Tunisia were superior than Nigeria winning 3-1 (25-23 24-26 25-13 25-13) in a match which lasted 91 minutes.
On Sunday Senegal played Tunisia and Nigeria encountered Egypt who are coached by Cuban Luis Martinez and Egyptian Emad Nawar.
