Homage to Guy Morel. |11 November 2006
We have fought on ideas and not with fist, but we remained friends. We had common historical projects to finalise, but your poor health aborted your visit to England and you could not fulfill your promise to get my ‘History of La Digue’ printed. Though, far from my beloved country I promise you that with God’s help I will try to carry on with the other projects that we have spoken about.
As a simple man of letters your demise will be a great loss for the Seychelles and your replacement will be very hard to find. However, it will prove that the young Mark Anthony was wrong because the good deeds that you have done for the less fortunate Seychellois will not be interred with you but will live long after you have gone. In your bereavement I have played the Requiem of Verdi and le Petit Requiem of Gabriel Urbain Fauré will be played on the day of your interment.
Adieu my friend.
