Broadcasting adult films during holidays |13 January 2007
A few years back, SBC used to broadcast good series like “Touched by an angel,” “Stick with me kid,” “Zoë busiek” and other such films, which are suitable for children to watch. As a parent I would love to prevent them from watching adult-rated films during the afternoon but they are at home and this time of year is the rainy season and so the only option is to watch television, which is broadcasting these films.
A senior SBC official once came on the television with an interview saying they were going to review what films they are showing for children and those for adults. I wish that they would review their holiday television programme so that children may watch what is appropriate to their age.
Likewise, many parents strongly feel – and I am one of them – that telenovelas should as far as possible desist from showing films featuring characters whose behaviour, demeanour and attire clearly go against what the average Seychellois and Christian is against. Otherwise, the screening of films which depict certain tendencies may be misconstrued by young people to suggest that certain immoral behaviour is okay and is being promoted. I hope it is not SBC’s aim to promote the ill trends in the first place.
Thank you for understanding my concerns because I know that we cannot let the children grow up learning about greed and how you hate people if you are wealthier than them because most of the time that’s what goes on in those films.
