Football-Airtel donates R200,000 to SFF |24 February 2007
The cheque presentation ceremony took place Friday morning (February 23) at the telecommunication company’s head office at Providence in the presence of SFF chairman Suketu Patel, members of the SFF executive committee and some Airtel staff.
Standing in for chief executive officer (CEO) Vinod Sud who is out of the country, Airtel corporate affairs manager Lalita Mayadas presented the cheque to SFF treasurer Justin Mathiot.
Mrs Mayadas pointed out that this year Airtel has doubled its contribution which was R100,000 in 2006. She added that the company hopes the money would be of full benefit to all the teams.
SFF chairman Patel thanked Airtel for once again coming forward to offer its assistance which he described as “a long-standing partnership”.
Mr Patel added that such a partnership was able to grow because the sponsor (Airtel) is confident in what the SSF is doing for local footballers and the game of football in Seychelles.
He took the opportunity to urge everyone involved in football to take their responsibility so that the good image of Seychelles football stays untarnished.
Nine teams are participating in the fifth edition of the competition reserved for first division sides. Half of the R200,000 sponsorship – R100,000 – will be given to the participating teams – R10,000 to each of the four teams in pool B and R12,000 to each of the five teams in pool A.
The top two teams in each pool will qualify for the cross knockout semifinals on Saturday and Sunday May 12 and 13. The final has been scheduled for Saturday May 19.
