Passing away of former President of the Russian Federation, Boris Yeltsin-President Michel sends message of condolence |25 April 2007

President James Michel has sent a message of condolence to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin following the passing away of that country’s former President, Boris Yeltsin.

President Michel’s message reads:
“It is with great sadness that I have learnt of the passing away of Mr Boris Yeltsin, Former President of the Russian Federation.
“The late President Yeltsin was a man of vision who contributed to the transformation of the Russian Federation into a democratic, prosperous and modern nation.

“In this moment of grief, the government and the people of Seychelles join me in expressing to you, to the family of the late President Yeltsin, the government and the people of Russia our sympathy and condolences.”

Meanwhile the Embassy of the Russian Federation has announced that a book of condolence will be opened for the public today from 1400hrs to 1700hrs at the Embassy, Le Niol.
Former President Yeltsin died from a heart attack on Monday at the age of 76.
