Parents at the fore in school activities |09 July 2007
Bel Eau school heightened the involvement of parents recently, when they offered them a chance to reward children for their performance.
They did so in partnership with the school’s PTA (Parents, Teachers’ Association) when they marked Children’s Day with a presentation of badges by the PTA members and parents to three children from each of the primary classes, 51 in all, for best performance, best effort and improved behaviour.
The most interesting and encouraging moment of the event was that the majority of the parents of the children who were awarded badges were present to give the badge to their children themselves. This was in line with the objective of rewarding students as a means of increasing their motivation in learning.
Teachers said the activity was the second such event organized by the PTA with the support of the school “to stimulate and motivate pupils’ interest in learning and promoting good values at school through the rewarding of good behaviour, work and effort.”
Fathers’ involvement
Bel Eau School, its management, staff, children and PTA members also held a special assembly for Father’s Day on June 15, 2007 to commemorate the day.
A good number of fathers responded to the invitation. On that occasion the headteacher , Susan Charles, thanked all the fathers present and stressed on the importance of their continued show of interest in their children and in assisting and supporting the school.
The fathers witnessed the presentation of certificates to pupils who have been doing their homework all the time and have been showing great interest in reading. The students were from P3 to P6 classes and the fathers had the honour of presenting the certificates to their kids
“Rewarding students for the things they do well remains an important activity that the Bel Eau school management, teachers, PTA and parents are going to strive to continue,” the headteacher said.
“It is only through inculcating the value of appreciation for what the children do well that will help the children enjoy their learning and school, at home, in the community and in the society at large,” she said.
