CWS introduces first electronic prepaid top up service |19 July 2007

Cable Prepaid customers will now have more flexibility to better manage their prepaid accounts, as they will be allowed to top up their accounts with amounts ranging from SR10 to a maximum of SR1000 per transaction.

Introduced at eTopUp, the service offers customers the opportunity to credit their accounts with higher amounts not on offer in voucher form.

Unlike vouchers, eTopUp does not utilise physical stock, as such customers are free from the hassle of scratching vouchers and entering voucher ID numbers.

The eTopUp service is also environmentally friendly. Being cardless, it will have a positive impact on the community by reducing the amount of card vouchers in use, which are often found on the ground as litter.

The chief executive of Cable & Wireless Seychelles, Charles Hammond, says  “Besides giving customers the benefit of topping up with value as low as SR10, it brings with it an environmental benefit that’s a huge plus for the community at large.”

Responding to President James Michel’s address on the occasion of the National Day for a cleaner Seychelles, Mr Hammond said that they are proud to “bring this first electronic, environmentally friendly top up service to the people of Seychelles”.

With eTopUp, Cable Prepaid accounts can be credited through a special eTopUp Point of Sale (POS), through the Internet or through mobile phones. The service is currently available at all Cable & Wireless Customer Service Centres on the three main islands and at various retail shops where eTopUp will soon be advertised.

The move towards this electronically top up system is in line with Cable & Wireless’  plan to move completely away from vouchers in the future.

The top up system introduced by Cable & Wireless was installed and will be technically supported by the Indian company of Tayana Software Solutions based in Bangalore.
According to a spokesperson for Cable & Wireless, the company’s personnel have been well trained to manage and operate this system.

The spokesperson said that, as with vouchers, customers will be notified of each transaction and new balance via an SMS after each top up.

The new service was officially launched in a small ceremony held recently in the presence of the former principal secretary for Environment, Dr Rolph Payet.
