Petanque: Shooting competition-César surprises Renaud to win shooting competition title |20 July 2007
After topping the group with 47 points in the preliminary round, Renaud easily defeated Roy Meriton 36-16 in the quarter-final while César trounced Gianni Ceccato 36-13 in the other quarter-final.
In the semi-final, Renaud defeated Wilven Jean who surpassed Collin Esparon in the quarter-final. The final score was 46-21. On his part César defeated Auguste Louise 33-22 in the semi-final.
In the final game of the competition, Joeliff César surprisingly defeated Roland Renaud 34-31 to grab his first title of the year.
Auguste Louise was third overall after his third place match victory over Wilven Jean.
In the ladies’ category, seven participants registered for the tournament and Vivianne Finesse was the overall winner. After finishing third with 17 points in the preliminary round Finesse defeated Marie-May Savy 7-4 in the semi-final while in the other semi-final Linda Sinon was the victor over Sheila Chang-Time. The score was 20-11.
In the final, Vivianne defeated Linda Sinon 24-10 to conclude as champion of the ladies’ category.
Nicholas Chang-Time was the winner in the junior category. After defeating James Ernesta 11-9 in the semi-final, Chang-Time outscored Marius Sinon 8-4 in the final.
Following Sunday’s competition, the SPA have officially named the selection representing the country at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) next month in Madagascar.
The players making up the team are Roland Renaud, Wilven Jean, Collin Esparon, Joseph Charles, Gianni Ceccato, Joeliff César, Auguste Louise, Joseph Sinon, Bernard Chang-Time, Antoine Botsoie, Julien Ernest, Iven Anacoura, Sheila Chang-Time, Marie-May Savy, Vivianne Finesse, Linda Sinon, Virna Fanny and Sheila Adolphe.
The next competition on the SPA calendar is a triplette competition next Sunday at Takamaka.
